Brockhampton

Brockhampton is a musical group/boyband. Brockhampton has taken many people by surprise, because they are not like any other boy bands that society has been used to. Most of them are rappers who were the outcast in school. They did not act or look like the so called "popular" kids in high school, but they showed the world what art they had to offer. Brockhampton is slowly making their imprint in the music community with Kevin Abstract leading the way.

Not only does Brockhampton have fun and cool music that is enjoyable to many audiences, but the things that they rap about are important for the world. The rap community has been shaped from old music and artists and being LGBTQ was frankly unheard of in the hip-hop community. Until recently when more rappers have been openly gay. Kevin Abstract is the founder of Brockhampton and has made them what they are now. Kevin Abstract is also gay and very open about it which is important to the hip-hop community. In the song "Junky," Abstract says "My boyfriend saved me/ My mothers homophobic/ I'm stuck in the closet/ I'm so claustrophobic." He lyrics are showing those who are queer that they are not alone. Abstract creates music to open everyones minds about what rapping is and different struggles that everyone goes too.

Brockhampton rapper/songwriter Matt Champion is also paving a new way for music. He has spoken about rap culture and mental illnesses in his verses to show how it is normal in our society and more people should notice what is happening in our own community. Champion also raps in "Junky" "Where the respect? Is your a** human?.../ Respect my mother, 'spect my sister, 'spect these women, boy." These acknowledgments are important for shaping the way people view women in our society. They also previously had a member that was accused of sexually harassing women. They immediately kicked him out of the group and apologized for his actions, but they also noted that kicking him out of the bad is not the solution to the problem of sexual assault.

Even though Brockhampton is not the most famous band at the moment, their important lyrics and community they have shaped as a band will soon influence many more people. They will catch the world by surprise.
