Greys Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy was important to television and you did not even know it. For those who do not know of this television show, Grey's Anatomy is about a everyday life in the surgical wing in a hospital located in Seattle, WA with the main character Meredith Grey. It includes the doctors medical experiences and personal ones as well. This show is hard to summarize because it has been running since 2005 and is the eight-longest-running television series in the US. Also, throughout the show, more than 15 major characters either die or leave the show, therefore it is hard to describe the overall series.

Grey's Anatomy addresses important issues that many other shows ignore. Even though more and more shows have reorganized people from the LGBTQ community or people of color, Grey's Anatomy has been doing that since 2005. For Example, they start out the show with an African-American male as the head of surgery and show flashbacks of him how he was discriminated against when he was younger and trying to be a doctor. This brings the viewers attention of how much harder it is for someone of color to be in that profession. Grey's Anatomy also prompts feminism. From the very beginning, the new interns are outnumbered in females. They even address how one used to be a former model (Izzy) and how the male make fun of her, thinking that she is not good enough to be a doctor, but then defies all of them and has great accomplishments as a doctor. Also, the strictest resident is Dr. Miranda Bailey. She is very tough on her interns and will do anything to get ahead as a doctor and save anyones life. She is so tough that they call her the nazi, even though she is a small, African-American women. Lastly, Grey's Anatomy treats the LGBTQ community like no one else has done before. There are many lesbians and bi-sexual women in the show. However, the writers did not make "being gay" there whole character, being gay was just apart of who they are, which many shows did not do. Every other person treated it completely normal as they would treat the heterosexual couples as well. In fact, one of the cast members bullied another cast member for being gay, and he was then fired from the show. Ultimately Grey's Anatomy was ahead of its time and continues to inspire many viewers to be who they are.
