Money - By Cardi B

The famous rapper Cardi B has become very successful. She became the first female to have 5 songs on the Top Ten Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, has the longest running Number 1 song on the Top 100 charts as a solo female rapper, won Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammys, her album was streamed over 100 million times on Apple Music and so many more. No one can deny that Cardi B's contributions to music have changed the community, but what do her messages show?

On December 21, 2018, the famous rapper Cardi B came out with the music video for her song "Money." This video got many mixed opinions but ultimately it is not okay for kids to have her as a role model. Her video constantly objectifies other women. Within the first 10 seconds of her video, two women have their breast out with their face showing. Also, throughout the video, Cardi B keeps changing her outfits, but all of them are very revealing, showing most of her breast and butt. When kids look to Cardi B as a role model, especially girls, they will think that they need to show their bodies in a revealing way. Cardi B also is placed in a glass container, having different old people look at her like she is an object in a museum, with most of her body being revealed. This makes it seem like women are objects and only good for their body. Lastly, in the video, the music stops and Cardi B is sitting on a piano stool and is fully naked, but we can only see the back of her. Cardi shows the significance of her body and makes it seem like that is all she is.

Throughout her video as well, there is a women on a stripper pole and another dancing while holding on a rope. This relates to Cardis past, because she became famous from being a stripper. During her song as well, she says "Shake a little a**, you get a little bag and take it to the store. get a little cash, you shake it real fast, you get a little more." This shows that girls will get money by exploiting their bodies and Cardi raps about it like it is okay.

The song is also called "Money." Throughout she talks about all anyone needs is money, "All a bad b*tch needs is the (Money)." This then shows kids that all they need in life is money and they will be happy, which is not the case. Even though Cardi B has made many contributions to the fashion industry, which I personally admire, what she discusses in her song shows that she is not someone who should be admired by kids and teens. It recently came out too that she used to drug men, have sex with them and then rob them. Which overall shows how she got her "money" and why no one should follow her footsteps.
